Exploded view

How a North Wave hot tub is built, layer by layer

  1. 1

The shell. Lucite acrylic, lined with 2 cm of black insulating foam pressed against it.

  2. 2

The frame. Black composite, rot-proof, 20-year warranty.

  3. 3

The belt. Rolled out like a carpet around the entire hot tub and over its full height, with its thermo-reflective sheet.

  4. 4

The panels. 25 mm Styrodur, covered with a thermo-reflective sheet on 3 mm foam, then the composite cabinet.

  5. 5

The base. A fibreglass tray raised 10 cm all around, lined with a thick layer of insulation under a thermo-reflective sheet.

The example is the Sølveijg, 5 seats. The number of pumps and equipment varies from one model to another: they are listed on each model's page.

The base

The base is a fully sealed fibreglass case. It contains insulation that cuts the thermal bridge from the ground, and it closes the hot tub from underneath against moisture and pests.

It is the part nobody ever sees, yet it accounts for half of the heat loss, because a hot tub standing on a cold slab keeps chilling the concrete all year round.

The structure

WPC composite on hot tubs, galvanised steel on swim spas

Hot tub frames are made of WPC composite, one of the most robust materials used in a hot tub structure. It does not react to moisture and requires no maintenance. 20-year warranty.

Swim spas receive a galvanised steel frame: a six-metre pool holds more than ten tonnes of water and withstands the stresses of counter-current swimming. Warranty up to 20 years.

The insulation

Triple Scandinavian insulation, fully removable, R18 coefficient

The polyurethane foam used beneath the shell insulates seven times better than ordinary hot tub foam, thanks to a patented composition.

An insulating belt covered with a thermo-reflective sheet facing the shell runs around the hot tub. The cabinet panels themselves contain a thin insulator and a thermo-reflective film, and the perimeter panels are lined with thick insulation.

The insulated cover is made of 12 cm thick high-density insulation, with a key lock.

Together they reach an R18 coefficient, which places these hot tubs among the best insulated on the market. Everything can be taken apart: a hot tub insulated with solid foam is one that cannot be repaired.

The shell

Lucite acrylic, made in the United States

The shell is made of several layers of Lucite acrylic and reinforcing materials. Its thickness and design are built for Nordic winters, well beyond what an Alsace winter demands. 20-year warranty.

The cabinet

The cabinets are made of composite coloured through the mass, in 17 mm panels: no maintenance, no stain to reapply, and a colour that does not fade in the sun. Four colours in the range.

Canadian cedar remains available as an option, depending on the installation.

The control panel

Gecko, classic or fully touchscreen

The Gecko control unit operates all the functions of the hot tub and can be used with wet hands, which matters on a device you operate from inside the water.

The in.k1000 touchscreen version comes fitted to most of the range. Wi-Fi control is available as an option.

The jets

The jets are adjustable, interchangeable and repositionable: the massage is set seat by seat, and a nozzle can be swapped for another if you want more pressure on the shoulders than on the lower back.

Swim spas receive Waterway swim jets, designed for a continuous, steady counter-current rather than a short, powerful burst.

The motorisation

Gecko Alliance, made in Canada

Pumps and equipment come from Gecko Alliance. The massage pumps deliver 1,050 litres per minute, placing them among the most powerful on the market.

The Aqua-Flo circulation pump, with an American Emerson motor of 1/15 HP and 49 W, keeps the water moving continuously at up to 250 litres per minute. It is the one running most of the time, and its consumption is what determines the monthly cost.

Components from recognised brands can be replaced anywhere in Europe: that is what sets the repair time ten years after purchase.

Filtration

Top-mounted skimmer filter and Microban-treated cartridges, a patented technology that limits bacterial growth inside the filter itself.

Disinfection

UV-C lamp

Treatment is carried out by a UV-C lamp, which destroys viruses and biological contaminants as the water passes through, and reduces the amount of chemicals to be added.

Ozonators, long associated with this type of installation, can no longer be sold in France since 1 January 2025: our hot tubs are delivered without one, and none of our quotes includes one.

All of this is better seen in person

At the Richwiller showroom, the cabinet opens: you can look at the insulation, lift a panel and listen to a pump running. It is the only way to compare two hot tubs beyond their specification sheets.
